PES 2013 turning heads

FIFA 13 v PES 2013

We read the review on FIFASoccerblog by @Xaor and it inspired our blog below – http://fifasoccerblog.com/blog/xaors-corner-learning-from-pes-2013

Xaor picked up on the most annoying part of all current football games, which PES is almost getting right again. Being able to pass a ball where you want with curve, back spin etc and it be realistic. This was achieved years ago with PES games but as he says try manual controls on FIFA and you have no chance. You simply don’t have time and with the 360 directional passing if you have any micro delay on buttons or lag your pass is going to go in the wrong direction at the wrong pace.

The first game that gets this right as an ex footballer has my full attention. I want to control the ball not the game control the ball. PES has always been a better experience against the AI which lets face it is appauling in FIFA. Games are the same over and over with crab type defending which no players in real life are capable of.

If FIFA 13 doesn’t sort the simplest element of the game I will be highly disappointed. Contain, the snow and rain have also ruined enjoyment of FIFA 12. FIFA still the best game because of UT and against opponents who don’t contain it can be a great game. But we’ve had to start playing known players and leagues to achieve this. I taught my friends’ 10 year old how to contain and 2nd man press and set him online in division 1. He only conceded 2 goals. That tells you something about FIFA. Better players are not allowed to play their game due to a crazy defensive system the AI controls.

The PES 13 demo after hours of play is enjoyable against the CPU and against friends we found even better. The player visuals are a bit odd but the gameplay is dictated by you not the defence of AI or opponent. Also on the PC the modders are out in force, adding to the game and tweaking it. If they get online going well our heads are already starting to turn.

Now we haven’t played FIFA 13 demo yet so can’t comment. Will it be like FIFA 12 demo which was only a few minutes long giving you no time to see if it is any good? Fingers crossed EA have listened to feedback on 12 and make the changes lots of us crave.
