    I got some tips for those just wanting to play online. I would recommend playing the computer on semi pro. I noticed that you never develop a pattern or a style on higher difficulties. The computer is obviously better and it makes the game more challenging, but you should focus on your game plan first. I play semi pro about 95% of the time. When I go up on World Class/Legendary it’s usually to test myself, but I enjoy the game less because the CPU plays a certain way and it restricts me from playing my way.

    Through semi pro I figure out the options I like, and then online I have a game plan. Of course it will change depending on how the opponent approaches the game, but then you adjust to suit. It is good to know your strengths and weaknesses.

    I have runs in seasons where I feel unbeatable and can’t be touched then as soon as I lose I can’t get back into a winning habit. This is when I start messing with formations what’s the best formation to use where attack and defence are evenly balanced?? And what tactics would you use? I normally use Manchester Utd or Dortmund. I find I keep the ball better with Dortmund (4231) but sometimes can be a little to predictable

      Well whichever was working for you before changed it use that! 4-4-2 and 4-1-2-1-2 are most balanced with 3-5-2 a little more attacking. Tactics depend on your style of play look our tutorial pages.

    I’m so nervous, I have a current streak of 55-5-0 in seasons and I’m 6 points away to win Div 1 with 6 games to spare (bought extra matches), I would love to win the Div 1 title undefeated throughout all Div seasons…

    I am taking your advise and will play later afternoon… maybe I find some inexperienced school boy :)

    Thanks for the tips, really helped out

    Did anyone mention D-Pad? I don’t think the (PS3) analogue stick is anywhere near as accurate as the D-Pad, or that this game even has analogue directions, as it seems to only be 8-way. You’re better off using the D-Pad.
    The default controls are all wrong, dangerous actually, if your defending buttons involve pressing shoulder buttons/triggers on the same side (R1 + R2) you’re gonna get RSIs and possibly triggering Dupuytren’s Contracture (if you develop lumps in your palms you have achieved this).
    The best custom controls:
    Attack:
    Triangle – Through Ball;
    Square – Shoot;
    Circle – Cross;
    X – Pass;
    L1 – Player Run/Modifier;
    R1 – Sprint;
    L2 – Finesse Shot Modifier;
    R2 – Pace Control;
    L Stick – Tactics;
    D-Pad – Move Player.
    Defence:
    Triangle – Rush GK;
    Square – Teammate Contain;
    Circle – Sliding Tackle;
    X – Contain;
    L1 – Change Player;
    R1 – Sprint;
    L2 – Tackle/Push or Pull;
    R2 – Jockey;
    L Stick – Tactics;
    D-Pad – Move Player.

    NB: You’d score a near-post headed goal from a corner 50% of the time when the game was first released – they patched this and basically TURNED HEADED GOALS OFF! So, don’t ever bother crossing in open play, hoping to score a header, pass to feet every time! Don’t worry about a striker’s heading accuracy either – they are all ZERO in practice! The ‘keepers are stupidly good now too, so great long-range goals rarely occur, which is pretty sad of EA.

    Hi just wondering if you could tell me more about the player moral/confidence? and how it works? is this only a UT thing or is it also online seasons mode, career and normal kick off? Thanks a lot :)

      The game tried to find similar teams and if it can’t if keeps looking higher until someone is in same division and similar record.

    I find that the best way to play FIFA is to play it casually , don’t make it your priority otherwise it becomes a chore and you end up losing , an example of this is that once played about 6 games in a matter of hours and every game I lost 3-4 or 2-1 this was because I made it a priority to get into Division x and playing FIFA became boring.

    Or you could sack it and play Pro Evo!
    Only joking, I’m an old Pro Evo player but FIFA seems better these days, certainly 13.
    Started doing Seasons , got upto Div7 easily but then it all went pear shaped. Some tips on here may help, seems an awful lot a button pressing combos needed to get stuff that came naturally with Adriano & Zlatan up front with Inter on Pro6!
    Any suggestions for a decent 3/4 star team. Don’t want to go 5* team,

      Try using a team like QPR?

    FIFA 14 has been announced and still i think ea messed up FIFA 13 servers. It lags big time and it looks like sometime ea dont want me to win, and sometime they dont want me to lose. its insane. does anyone one else feel that fifa 13 some times favours you and sometime the opponent ?

      Yes if dodgy server connections its not very good online. Button delay, strange ball physics etc :-(

    Hi… I am really having trouble with FIFA 13. I was great at FIFA 12 using all manual controls, but I can’t win at all now on FIFA 13 with fully assisted controls whether it be online or vs. the AI. I often have 60+% possession but often wind up with fewer shots on goal and I can rarely score 2 goals. 2-1, 2-0, 1-0 are very common scores for me. And I give up lots of goals late too even dropping back into ultra defensive mode. I’m just at my wits end. Worse yet, I seem to be regressing. Granted I’m sure part of this is more people are playing then when I first got it for Christmas, but still. I have a couple teams I like and a formation I’m comfortable with, but still nothing works for more than a couple games.

      First play AI on Amateur and win easy lots. Get to understand player movement in defence. What happens when you do different passes and the timing of through balls etc. You maybe want to check our Blog on the FIFA 13 matchmaking system which might explain the losses compared to FIFA 12.

    I’m extremely frustrated, I have played Division 1 like 30 times, yesterday I almost got the div1 title for the first time, but I got really unlucky in last 3 games.. I remember first time ever I got to division 1 months ago I got 20p! And now with a lot of practice and a lot better players I can’t even get near that anymore?! Even after playing through division 1 many many times over weeks.
    Besides playing Fifa 11 offline, I don’t have much experience in Fifa games, and yet it is frustrating to practice and practice only to struggle more and more. I have no idea what is going on.. In my last division 1 my W/D/L ratio was 1-1-6, and now in Div2 I am doing even worse, 1-1-7. I’m not even frustrated when playing, trying to keep calm and do my best, but I just keep losing. There is just no way I can beat this guy and it is getting very hard to keep my own morale up.

    Honestly, this is very frustrating. Help!

      Check our blog on FIFA matchmaking. Not sure why you were playing FIFA 11 offline?

    Hi, im playing mosty single player, i can confidently defend against legendary. games usually end within 2 points. My problem is I find it hard to score. I know from observation i usually advance thru the wings and cut inside or push up the center. Im trying the crossing skill games to vary my attacks. Any advise to diversify and improve my scoring on legendary,? because i feel it like brute forcing it when i play the center.

      Unfortunately EA have coded the defending badly on FIFA. So offline games become very repetitive. 1-2 play works better against the AI.

    Im about to play a tournament with my friends. were playing with 4,5 star teams. Ihave no idea which team to choose. Which is the best excluding AC Milan, Inter Borussia, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham? I play with 4-2-3-1 formation, and i think i’ll choose between Zenit, Atletico or Napoli, unless you have some better ideas. Which team will fit my formation best?

      Maybe Anzhi Russian league? Eto is capable of scoring against anyone and some quick players. Dortmund is stronger tho :-)

    I have a current winning percentage of 85%.. I just bought fifa 13 3 weeks ago and I am in Division 4 at the moment.. I have only 4 loses in Seasons so far, am I going strong or is this fairly normal to have very few loses within the first 5 or 6 seasons.. ??

      The better players are in divisions 1 and 2 so you might find it more of a challenge then.
