Timed finishing in FIFA 22 is the same as previously. You press the shoot button and then press it again. The timing of the second press needs to be when the bars meet to turn green. Timing of the press is important. If you time it green you will score more. Our sections below explain how to turn it on and when to use it. We recommend practicing in the skill games as much as you can and then in some offline games on beginner first.

How to change the trainer settings in FIFA

In the trainer settings menu switch everything off except timed finishing. When you press shoot twice in a game you will now notice a bar above a players head. Before or during the game you can simply have the option of showing or hiding the trainer. So in an offline game start a match and then pause the game. Then in the trainer section you can set it so that only timed finishing shows as below. When you play any game offline or online only the timed finishing indicator will appear. Well the direction arrow will too but nothing else.

Which buttons to press for timed finishing

In simple terms timed finishing means pressing the shoot button once for the amount of power then tapping it again at the right time. The difficult part is timing that second tap. Also for those confused in FIFA 18 pressing the shoot button twice was a low driven shot. To do a low driven shot in FIFA 22 or 21 hold L1 R1/LB RB depending on Playstation or Xbox.

The timed finish on the second tap of the shoot button should be done just as the player is about to hit the ball. If you hit it right it will be a more powerful shot and if aimed right will be a goal. However press the button too early or too late and the ball could go bouncing into the ground slowly or rocket into the stands. Our tweeted video shows how to do timed finishing so it is green.

Having the indicator switched on for the trainer gives you a bar above the player a bit like the old penalty system. Power up the right amount for the distance and then the press shoot the second time when the 2 bars meet in the middle to show green.

When to use timed finishing in FIFA

You should use timed finishing in FIFA when you have time and space. Usually there isn’t much time to power up shots and then react in time for the 2nd press. This is why timed finishes are easier for long shots and volleys. Finesse shots from outside the box can also use timed finishing for extra power. Time and space give you that opportunity. Use them 20 to 30 yards out from goal especially down the middle where you are more likely to be on target.

Should you use timed finishing in FIFA?

The great thing about timed finishing is that you don’t have to use it. You can switch it off and forget about it. However we advise trying it for long shots alone. Players with long shot trait hitting a timed finish can score from 30 yards and the keeper won’t even see the ball. If you become good at them try them for volleys and angles around the edge of the box too.
