What is FIFA Ultimate team? FIFA Ultimate Team explained

So what is FIFA Ultimate team that everyone becomes addicted to in FIFA? FIFA Ultimate Team (commonly called FUT or sometimes UT) is a mode in FIFA. It enables you build teams using any players from all the leagues to play offline and online to win coins to buy better players or packs which contain random players.

There are seasons where you play in 10 divisions starting in Div 10 trying to work your way up. You randomly play people online who are in your division and there is no league table. You just have to reach a certain number of points in a certain number of games to get promoted or win the division. If you don’t reach the minimum points you will be relegated to the division below. You can play as many seasons as you want.

There are also single games where you can play against random people online or a friend. You can also have guest mode on FUT 17 where 2 people on 1 console can play together. Opponents can be 1 player or have a guest too.

Does your Ultimate Team continue in new version

No anything you did in FIFA 17 on Ultimate team stays as FIFA 17. So you can load FIFA 16 and still play FIFA 16 Ultimate team or even older versions. When you start FIFA 18 Ultimate team it is new and starts from scratch. Coins from zero and only the random players you get as a new player (bronze, silver and couple of gold). You cannot transfer anything between versions.

Start of Ultimate Team

Everyone starts off with a very average team. Returning players from FIFA 17, FIFA 16 etc will get free packs at the start of FIFA 18. There is a web app which starts a couple of weeks before the console release. On there you can see what your starter team is and open any of the free packs. You can sell anything you receive in the packs but the original players you are given you cannot sell until the game is released. You can also buy players on the webapp to sell and make coins or to put in your team. If you login to the webapp daily before the game is released you receive daily gifts which are just small packs or coins. When you use the webapp before the game comes out on the consoles it continues when the game is released.

If you ordered a version of the game where you get packs these are separate and will be available in the store when you start FIFA 18 UT from the disc/digital download on your console. Although the game only gives you 1 or 2 of the packs per week available to open in the store. You do NOT get all packs to open as soon as you start the game. Also you don’t actually have to open a pack because it is there. Maybe let them build up and open them later in the year when lots better in forms or maybe team of the year players are released.

Ultimate Team players

All the players in the FIFA Ultimate team game are split into three categories. There are Bronze players rated 0-64, Silver players rated 65-74 and Gold players rated 75 to 99. These generally reflect their ability in real life and the price reflects their popularity within the game. You can create a team mixing any of them but some competitions offline and online might have to meet certain requirements, more on that later.

Each category is further broken down into Normal, Rare and In Form. Look at the following image which shows one of each for bronze, silver and gold. Normal is a standard card, rare means it is just that and more valuable. Every week in real life some players are outstanding. Ultimate team on FIFA recognises this and creates new versions of the players with increased better stats. These are called In Form players and become available to buy and are inside packs during each week. Sometimes in different positions to their original card depending where they played for their team that week. EA announce when the team of the week players are available and we let people know on twitter. Easily recognisable as they have black backgrounds and shiny too. Bronze, silver and gold at the top so you can tell which they represent. If you have a normal version of a card that does not change to the in form version. It means there will be the normal versions of the card available in the game and also the In Form version.

Different versions of Ultimate team players

To make it a lot more interesting EA release various new versions of the players apart from the Team of the Week In Forms. There are Squad builder challenge players, Team of the Year players, Team of the Season players, Man of the Match players, Record breaker players, Purple hero players, Upgraded players during season and transferred players. So a Team of the season player will have amazing stats compared to his normal card or even inform card. Player prices reflect demand. So Ronaldo and Messi will be over 1 million coins. This means you have to try buy and sell players to make coins and play games to make coins, in order to try buy them. Or you could buy packs and hope that you get the amazing players in them. Usually you have to be very lucky to get the top players in packs. You can even buy fifa points with real money on xbox or playstation to buy packs. Below shows how Ronaldo had every single card released in FIFA 15 (apart from transferred and upgraded).

Christmas, January, May and July – Market crashes (player price drop).

1. Christmas
Player prices drop just before and during Christmas as more people get the game and also Points on Xbox and Playstation to buy packs. So the market become flooded with players bringing the prices down. Also with everyone thinking about January Team of the Year players prices will start to fall even more. So make sure sell your expensive players before Christmas ideally.

2. Team of The Year players
Every January FIFAPro release a Team Of The Year for the real life players. EA always release these same players in a special blue colour and FUT players go crazy for them. Pushing prices of all other players down as people sell to try buy them and more packs to attempt to find them.

3. January transfers
When the January transfer window opens around Europe players move clubs. New cards will be released in the new club but it will be done in batches a week or two after the player signs. All the existing cards for that player will be unaffected. But in packs will only be the version at the new club. So if Reus moved to Manchester United in January for example. There would be a new Man Utd version of the card put into packs. Usually the demand for the player is higher from people at the new club than people from the old club wanting to get rid. Sometimes a player might be transferred to a club not in Ultimate Team.

4. Upgraded players
Around the start of February players who have played well since the start of the season have new upgraded versions of their cards released. So there will then be two verisons of the same player at the same club you can buy on the market. Last year there was a normal 86 rated Neymar and a new 87 version of him was released. This also affects the InForm version which might have been released for a player. So before the new upgrades come out players generally have had one or two TOTW (team of the week) cards. An 87 rated Inform version of Neymar for example is raised even higher, so it isn’t the same as the new 87 gold version.

5. Team of the Season players
Similar to Team of The Year players except come out at the end of the season not year and have one for each of the major leagues. So 1st week in May TOTS teams start to release. You need to be aware of this for when the market crashes to its lowest point. Sell your players a month before it when at their highest price!

6. Transferred players
Mid July EA release players for their new teams. During May/June/July players start to move clubs. At this time the prices across Ultimate Team will drop to the lowest point and you will find you can pick up players who were 600,000 coins for just 100,000.

Chemistry in FIFA Ultimate Team

So why is chemistry important in FIFA Ultimate team? Basically because EA decided to have it. They could have left it so you could have used any player anywhere and just play games but they wanted a structure to the game. So you have to build a team and have players in the right positions playing with players from their club, league or country to give them better chemistry. When you play an Ultimate team game the chemistry helps your players perform better, pass better and generally play better. You will notice your manager to the right also adds to this chemistry, if he is the same nationality as a player that gives better chemistry.

Each player in each team you have will have a chemistry rating out of 10. So when that is 10 the player will play to his maximum ability. When you look at your team you will see the chemistry rating out of 100 to the right. This is the total of all your players chemistry. If you have 2 players from the same league and country you will see a green link between them. This indicates a strong link. If a link is yellow it is weaker and if it red it is low. To have strong links as above players need to be from the same country or league or club. To make chemistry 10 play more games in the same team.

Player contracts and fitness

The players have contracts so they can play games. Default is 7 but you can add contracts which you can buy in the trade area. Every time a player plays a game they go down by 1 contract. Fitness is gained by resting and lost by playing. Generally a player with 80 or lower fitness will be much slower in the game. You can buy fitness cards to add to individual players or to the entire squad.

Trading in Ultimate Team

First thing to note when you sell any player on Ultimate Team 5% tax is removed from the sale. So if you sell a 2000 coin player you get 1900 coins. 100 coins is taken away as the 5% tax. To work out how much the 5% tax will be for a player go into calculator on computer or phone and multiply the price of the sale by 0.05. EG 2000 X 0.05 = 100. Then remove the value from the total. 2000 – 100 = 1900. We also added a handy FUT tax page for reference http://fifaaddiction.com/5229/fifa-ultimate-team-tax-guide

You can buy and sell your players in the trading area or you can go to the store and buy packs. These can be bought with virtual coins you make in the game. You can buy packs using Microsoft points also which of course you can pay for with real money. We don’t advise this as our guides show how you can make the virtual coins in the game. http://fifaaddiction.com/ultimate-team-players-of-the-week

New features in FUT18 Squad Battles

Once again EA have added new features to the mode which makes them billions of pounds! Squad battles enables players to compete in offline games against other players squads. The better the results the better the rewards. Check out the Squad battles videos below. As playing offline is more fun in FIFA 18 this works well for players wanting to have a less stressful weekend playing FIFA. With very big rewards similar to the Weekend League of FUT Champions.
