Chemistry in FUT 12 is pointless
We have been testing all aspects of FIFA for a number of months now. One of our favourite modes is FIFA Ultimate Team. Picking players and creating a team to play against others is good fun and there are always new in form players released usually reflecting performances in real life. Shame no league mode but maybe one day. It also allows online mulitplayer so 4 of us can play against other teams online using 3 guests. Really good fun but very very hard. Especially switching players and positioning everyone. Over the months we have been testing many parts including the key part of Ultimate Team – Chemistry! Or is it?
Our hundreds of games suggest not. We haven’t noticed any difference in play between teams with less than 50 chemistry and those with 100. Even with players out of position and 0 chemistry players have played no differently. For us it is pure psychology in your mind. Do a bad pass or shot and you blame the chemistry. A player has a bad game and you blame the chemistry. What do you blame when they have full chemistry and have a bad game? Usually scripting, lag, the goldfish making too much noise. Do some tests like we did create 2 teams one with full chemistry and one with none. Ask someone to blindfold you and they select one of the teams for you to play with. See if you notice the difference over a series of 10 to 20 games.
This means you can buy the cheapest versions of players in any formation and build your teams much cheaper without having to worry. Also change formation during game if not doing well in a game. And you won’t have to care about chemistry being affected. Notice EA have added 95% chemistry to the latest tournament as we hinted on forums this was the case previously. Not much we can stop them doing that but at least this raises awareness.
Below are the first two videos showing how chemistry hasn’t affected online tournament play. As explained on the youtube channel we wanted to leave the first video from our Samsung Galaxy s2 raw, to show no video editing was used. Apologies if a little bright. The second video is still from the S2 but added intro and exit. Don’t forget to like and share this below and get the whole FIFA community discussing and testing. We also found a video from ROS5iHD – https://twitter.com/#!/ROS5IHD using zero chemistry team players out of position and still winning. As linked below ours.

Hey is this still true in fifa 13?
There is a new section on chemistry in FIFA 13 – https://fifaaddiction.com/ultimate-team/chemistry-in-ultimate-team
I’m not sure that overall chemistry is absolutely not important. You may be right, that it’s all in my head, but I always seem to play better when my guys have 90+ chemistry, especially on free kicks and corner kicks. I always seem to win more air balls with higher chemistry.
I do wish there was an app / website where you could test a team for chemistry before actually buying the player cards.
Apart from tournaments where chemistry is a requirement we just put players where we want. Win lots of tournaments. Only lose to better FIFA players unless unlucky. Not sure what you mean on testing the chemistry as you can use FUTHead.com to see what your team will look like and chemistry etc.
Futhead.com
Let’s be honest though, the people spending hundreds on packs are the people who are going to do so regardless of how much chemistry affects things. It’s not like EA is ever going to come out and say, yes the chemistry system is a load of crap, so anything we do is purely hypothetical. Also, when “testing”, you need to eliminate variables, and frankly, human vs human games is too unpredictable. Try playing against a friends team but with the cpu controlling his side. That would eliminate half the variables instantly. The cpu plays the same as long as you keep it on the same difficulty. Then you can focus more on your players’ ability rather than the ineptitude of your opponent.
Agreed but we no longer care what formation cards are when getting players or using them. Makes life so much easier for us all. Notice EA then put tournaments up needing 100% chemistry as they see more people saying chemistry is a myth.
haha yeah, but EA is stubborn. We could have a recorded conversation of their executives saying chemistry is pointless and they would still deny it. But they’re making money, so why stop now. I love your page by the way, it’s great you guys get replies out so quickly, and lots of good threads. This will be going on my favorites.
Cheers we know what it is like to be fans of the game waiting for answers. We are just trying to get them same answers for everyone by using the FIFA community and pressing EA more as a bigger force.
I dont know if its chemistry or morale make that the difference, but there is definately an advantage to be had by having a worse rated team!
In the recent FUT tournament for Liga BBVA players, I played with my all Silver BBVA team (mainly made up of players from Sporting) and was regularly beating teams with Ronaldo, Messi et al….
You just confirmed what i have suspected for a long time, I have been destroyed by teams whose players are out of position/ wrong formation loads of times, I have spent fortunes building a squad of bright Green lines, assuming I would trounce those with inferior chemistry, or at least provide a stern test for my oppo! I suppose ability of the gamer counts for more than anything else…..Better get more practice in!
i have tried this and chemistry IS linked with how the players play and react, but only because of the MORALE!!!
HOWEVER chemistry actually lowers the morale of each player after each game. this is why players react slowly and generally play *hite after a few games with low chemistry. the first game i played with crap chemistry, i used a squad morale card so everyone had 100 morale and it played just like normal, but after the first game the chemistry lowers everyones morale and they play shocking
I am definitely sure the chemistry is only in place so players morale increases per game, so chemistry does in a way make players play better.
Not sure you understand how it works. Morale I agree affects the players and how they play but that isn’t linked to chemistry. Morale is linked to your stadium and if you win or lose and how well or badly. Morale always needs to be high as does fitness.
I actually think this guy is right. Playing with 100 chemistry, I never had anybodies morale drop below ~80 or maximum 75.
Playing with low chemistry, peoples morales dropped WAY faster, and I didnt lose any more games than I usually would. I had players with 60 morale, just after 3 losses – whereas with 100 chemistry i could lose 5 times in a row and it wouldnt drop below 80.
I’ll have to keep an eye on that an report back!
Thanks it would really help if you tried it out jid, but i actually i hope im wrong so i can make really good teams for pence!
Also B4RCA i actually played with a team with 45 chemistry in a tournament quarter final and won like 2-0 and before the game i used a squad morale card so everyone was at 100. then after the game i looked at everyones morale and it was at 92-94 so i thought i’d play my second team from my subs and bench. same happened to them. then i went back to first team, won in the final and the morale fell below 90, they just have to be linked (chemistry and morale and crap play)
Some interesting findings. Usually it depends on the defeats how much the morale goes down and depends on the stadium you play in. So opponent might have a less morale stadium for if you win etc. Will do some fitness testing tho for every game we had 100% as think it is very important. Have 2 teams just keep switching between them.
this is so not true. players seem slower, they turn more sluggish, they miss chances, they stop making runs – all effects of low chemistry.
i went from scoring on almost every chance to losing with 15 shots on goal – on a regular basis. its insanely hard to score goals with low chemistry.
Not from our testing over 3 months and over 200 games of specific chemistry testing. We didn’t struggle to score goals at all. We also changed the team for each other without letting each other know if chemistry was high or low before kick off. Happy to have a UT game against you and record it to analyse the gameplay of passing and shooting from both our teams and add that to all the videos we are going to add. Then we can see your team and formation and what players played where. Was your chemistry lower than 50?
I played several games, sometimes it was lower than 50, other times it was around 70.
The thing is, in general, the players dont play MUCH worse. Its just little things, like turning kinda slow, and losing a fight for the ball the player would usually win, or just running a little bit slower with the ball, not being able to get a pass through that usually would go through.
I had a lucky series of games against the same guy last night, where the first game I played with 42 chemistry – I was getting stomped, but managed to get a lucky 1-1. I had a very memorable moment where Eden Hazard lost a running duel with his Chiellini and I went like wtf is wrong with this shit.
Next game I went up against him as well, this time with 99 chemistry, but my shit bundesliga squad. I subbed in my offense from the previous game – reyes, welliton and hazard and completely raped the guy. Where last game Hazard lost running duels against Chiellini, this time he left him in the dust as he is supposed to do.
Last game, I just switched out my offense and left the bundesliga squad intact. Total of ~70 chemistry with my offense having low individual chemistry around 3-4. Same crap as first game. Cant win running duels for the hell of it, passes that would go around a player, these last seconds touches that often can make for a good run, get blocked – all the time. Lob Through balls are useless, I just get outrun.
Chemistry for me seems to affect players in the same way that morale does. During the course of my testing, the morale of Reyes dropped to like 60. He was completely useless. He moved like a freaking 300 pounds bronzedefender. Gave him a moralecard – he was playable, but still slow and lost the ball often. Subbed him in for a guy with full chemistry – he was slow, responsive, jumped around defenders and always was one step ahead.
I tried this out with a team of 48 chem and it seemed to work for me. I always thought that chemistry was everything in FUT but you have proved me wrond 🙂 This tip is AMAZING for saving coins as now I don’t have to worry about chemistry XD. Thanks a lot for sharing this.
interesting theory. tired it out myself, seems to be true. tried it in single player matches just as a control and full chemistry or not the players seemed to play the same both on and off the ball. i do play with mostly semi-assisted settings though if that makes a difference. granted im sure you cant put a keeper as a striker and expect him to preform well, but this is wonderful news for creating more diverse squads
Please spread around to everyone you know as we need FIFA 13 to give us more choices for creating squads we want to. Chemistry should be removed or changed.
Have tested with less than 50 chemistry and lost 1/10, but then i tested with less than 40 and only won 1/10. have you tested with chemistry between 50 and 100?
