Best FIFA 20 settings
These are the Best FIFA 20 settings we recommend to improve your game. There are lots of settings and they can make a big difference to the gameplay and how your players react.
We help you learn what the settings mean and how to use them in game to play better. The common settings for passing shooting and crossing are the same as always. But look how many others there are now as EA attempt to solve issues. Here we unravel them explaining what they mean.
Best FIFA controller settings
These are the best FIFA controller settings in our opinion. You might want to change a few when you know how they affect the game. Look at how we have them set and we will go through each below.
FIFA Trainer
This is a helpful guide for people new to FIFA. Visible indicators as you play for which buttons to press and where the ball will go. As we have seen this is usually annoying and best switched off for regular players. It does allow people to show how the game isn’t doing what it says however. Such as a shot on target which after leaving the foot suddenly starts to go wide.
Timed Finishing
Introduced in FIFA 19 to add more of a skill gap. After you press shoot press it again and if you “time” the 2nd press in the middle of 2 sliding bars the shot is better. Usually only Pro players use this but we don’t see a negative of having it switched off. Check out our FIFA Timed finishing tutorial which will help you understand it more.
2nd defender switch icon
Added so you can see which player you will switch to next if the game or you decide automatically. We like this switched on to see where the game thinks the play is going to next. Important as we know that where the passing line you thought you had chosen doesn’t always seem to be the case.
Pass block assistance
Where your player blocks the path of the pass. As the game seems to do a brilliant job of this we definitely leave it on. As frustrating as the feature is overall in the game.
Auto switching
For every FIFA until FIFA 20 we have had this set to air balls. However we simply don’t trust it any more and prefer it totally off. The one problem when set to off is that on crosses you have to change player yourself. However we haven’t conceded a single goal from a cross in FIFA 20.
Auto switching move assistance
This means as you take control of your player do they stop or continue doing what the AI thought they should be doing. Low being in the middle means you aren’t stuck either way. Set to off or high can cause problems.
Jockey
Again for the first FIFA ever we have this set to manual. FIFA 20 just seems to create havoc when it tries to decide everything. Having it on means your player will slow down or change direction when your opponent does. But we don’t think the game understands how people play and need control over defending. One of the best FIFA 20 settings to change.
Right stick switching
In FIFA 20 we use right stick switching all the time because we have auto switching manual. Relative to the player is easier for our brain to work out as there is a big arrow above the head of a big player. Rather than just looking at where the ball is and where you think it might be going.
Passing and shooting assistance
These become a can of worms in FIFA 20 as compared to PES passing is a mess. Basically manual passing or shooting is hard in FIFA mainly due to the mechanics of how it works. In PES it is amazing and where you aim and the power is what happens.
Cross assistance
Once again FIFA 20 is the first time we have had this set to manual. Scoring from crossing has become almost impossible (writing this on patch 3 of FIFA 20). Therefore we are learning how to manually cross the ball and have so far seen an improvement in chances and actually scoring
Save assistance
For Pro clubs if controlling the keeper. One big tip we have said for years now even in FUT and Head to head, press the shot button to help your keeper make saves. It is like a button to say dive!
Analogue sprint
When you hold sprint the pressure of the trigger is supposed to determine how fast your player can run. Only pro players would really be able to utilise this or if you have a very expensive controller with changeable trigger tension.
Tactical defending
Unfortunately this was the start of another mess by EA several years ago. Where defending is attached to coding too much rather than you defending. However it needs to be switched on as that is what everyone plays with and is set competitively.
Pass receiver
Added in FIFA 20 by EA to try to help people pass to the player they wanted. You may laugh but it kind of highlights how bad passing is in FIFA 20. We use early in the hope that when we press pass it goes where we intended rather than delaying and going in a different direction.
FIFA 20 camera settings
Finally for our best FIFA 20 settings the camera. For the last few years we have used a zoomed out tele or dynamic camera. However in FIFA 20 we feel a camera closer to the action helps us control players. It is a shame that we have to do this but FIFA isn’t as fluid as it used to be and we like to play a passing game with skills. The only way we can do this and enjoy it is with a closer camera.
