Lengthy players explained – FIFA 23
In FIFA 23 EA introduced a new player definition for next gen. Called acceleRATE it defines players as Lengthy, Controlled or Explosive.
- Lengthy players take longer to reach top speed but are harder to dispossess when they do. They can catch players over distance.
- Explosive players accelerate to top speed quickly but easier to disposses when they do. Slow down over distance.
- Controlled players are the middle ground between the two.
Which players are lengthy and why?
Generally tall strong players with less agility are lengthy. The actual formula by EA is Strength > 65, (Strength – Agility) > 14, Acceleration > 55, Height > 174cm (5ft 9). Strength is key to players seeming OP in FIFA 23. Weaker players can be knocked off the ball due to “stumbles”, another added feature. Allowing stronger players to run faster when being challenged. Haaland and Kane as below are naturally lengthy players.
One key point people miss is Haaland having a unique running style, making him even better than most. Mbappe even with 91 strength can never be lengthy. However he has his own unique running style too. Most top players do which you should take into consideration when reviewing players.
Do chemistry styles affect acceleRATE?
Chemistry styles can have a big impact on each player. Changing an acceleRATE type completely. 3 chemistry styles change Kounde to lengthy. Architect changes many tall strong centre backs to lengthy. Others which add strength are anchor and marksman. As we know strength is one of the key factors with lower agility.
Are FIFA 23 lengthy players the fastest?
The top speed available depends on distance and space. Being stronger and avoiding being thrown off balance gives greater power. Basically allowing lengthy players more time to run at their top speed. Pace overall is still decided by the usual attributes. Acceleration, sprint speed, ball control, stamina etc. EA released a video below showing the distance sprints for each type.
@NofilKhan26 created a detailed twitter thread investigating lengthy players. This features input from various content creators and fifa players, including several tests. The various results confirm that in FIFA 23 slower players are not as “slow” as in previous FIFAs. Having 70 pace or 85 pace wouldn’t result in a big difference on the pitch overall.
This is gonna get bigger in the next few hours, so here's a thread why some tall non meta players seem OP(Like Haaland) and how the Architect chem style can make your tall clunky players move like that. It's all based on the new AcceleRATE mechanic EA have used pic.twitter.com/2sXEpreDzn
