How does slow defender outpace fast striker?
So you have a striker with 95 or more pace, full chemistry and morale but somehow a defender with 75 pace or less catches him? Surely this is wrong your fast players should always break free and sprint clear every game and you should win by 5 goals every game right?
WRONG.
FIFA is actually very similar to the real game. In actual football the fastest players don’t constantly run clean through past the defence and have 1v1 situations. When Messi has played against Nesta how many times has Messi managed to knock the ball past him and beat him to the ball easily in space? Hardly any. How many times in actual football have you seen Walcott/Nilmar/Doumbia etc etc race through into empty space leaving defenders far behind?? Few times in last few years! How many times do you see Puyol suddenly beat a faster player to the ball 10 yards away? Lots. There are more attributes to FIFA than just pace and acceleration. EA have actually done a great job with this. Look at the player specialities for tips on what really is going on in FIFA. Note these are not viewable in UT. You can see them in exhibition mode. When you know what the players have you can use these to your advantage.
It’s funny how FIFA players complain and moan that there is scripting when they are losing. That players aren’t doing what they should. Obviously if there is a slight issue with any connection there will be problems with what you think you told the controller to do and what the actual player does. But remember the 360 degree motion, this affects everything in FIFA. Your use of the controller needs to be perfect for 360 degree passing and shooting and especially skills to be as you want them.
Also most people who moan use assisted settings for passing and shooting. So they have chosen for the game to attempt to do things for them and then complain when it doesn’t do them perfectly. Try actually using manual controls and becoming a true master of the game. Then you have full control over the game and what you do with the ball. The game suddenly becomes a new experience. Yes it is harder, much harder, but worth the effort over time. No more through balls in completely the wrong direction. You can even curl the ball into space or round players with your own aftertouch.
Now we aren’t saying FIFA12 is the perfect game of football or that EA are good or bad. Players stand and run offside all the time for example and the impact system means a small block can be a red card where as a full on charging tackle isn’t even a free kick. But remember in the real game referees are always getting things wrong and managers and fans complaining so it isn’t that wrong! SNOW in the game is an awful experience. That is our biggest hate.
To sum up losing at FIFA makes us hate it and even more than seeing our own team lose or maybe losing a Sunday league game or game down the park. This is FIFA rage! We try changing players, formations, tactics and even our clothes to win again. Because at the end of the day lots of us have a FIFA ADDICTION.
