FIFA shooting tutorial.

Our FIFA shooting tutorial teaches you the best ways of scoring from different positions. All the types of shot you can use to score and when you should use them. Better players have better stats and traits to give more accuracy but you need to know how to shoot. Step 1: How to prepare for the shot in FIFA. Then Step 2: Learn which type of shot to use. And Step 3: Know how much power and direction.

Here are the sections for Shooting:

FIFA types of shot and when to do them.

Learn these types of shot in FIFA and the controls. Make sure you know which foot each player uses for shooting. You should always know your players that well. If a player has 4 or even 5 star weak foot you will notice they are much better at shooting.

Shot preparation

Shots are easier in FIFA if you are in space. Your player might not hit the ball clean if under pressure. Try to steady your player before shooting by tapping left trigger (L2 or LT) on its own just before shooting. You could try to knock the ball ahead or do a skill as shown later on this tutorial.

Finesse shot

To perform a finesse shot in FIFA Press R1/RB and the shoot button. This makes the ball curve into the corner away from the keeper. Finesse shots are extremely effective around the edge of the box. There have been several patches to various FIFA games but the finesse shot is always overpowered. When inside the box the curve sometimes bends the ball towards the keeper rather than into the corners. Make sure you know which foot each player is and if they have finesse trait.

Low driven shot

To perform a low driven shot in FIFA press L1+R1 or LB+RB and the shoot button. We have found that low driven shots find the net more when you are facing the goal head on rather than at an angle. For some reason many shots go wide when they are driven towards goal from an angle. To counter this you have to combine the finesse shot above. To perform a driven finesse shot first you press the R1/RB and shoot button and then very quickly L1+R1 or LB+RB.

Chip shot

In FIFA the chip shot is most effective when 1 v 1 with the keeper. Especially when the keeper has moved towards you providing more space behind. Always try and aim for the furthest corner of the goal to where you are. To perform a chip shot in FIFA simply press L1/LB. Usually 2 to 3 bars of power will chip a keeper who is running towards you. Make sure you shoot early enough to get the ball over the keeper.

Long shot

Same as every FIFA, long shots can be a good way to score when using the right players. Look for any player with long shot trait or high long shot stats as a starting point. If a player has long shot stat of 85 or over they will be very useful. Combine that with shot power again 85 or over and long shots will start to fire into the goal. If a player has the trait as well you will score lots from the edge of the box and just outside.

Shoot across keeper

In FIFA shooting across the keeper is more successful when approaching the goal from a certain angle. Most of the time a near post finish will be the better choice. Shoot across the keeper when there is a small gap between the near post and keeper as shown below.

Near post shot

Shooting near post is always strong in every FIFA. Use just a normal shot and then learn how to add driven and driven finesse. Use near post when facing the goal and also at very wide angles. Also use near post finishing for long shots when that side of the goal. You will score lots of goals doing this.

Flair shot

To perform a flair shot in FIFA you simply press L2/LT when you shoot. This is advised when you are not really needing to score or enjoy showboating. People enjoy scoring flair shots and if you time them right they can look spectacular. The ultimate flair finish is probably the scorpian kick if a player has the flair trait. When the ball is in the air and slightly behind your player there is a chance it will happen. The video from back in FIFA 20 shows various flair finishes.

Timed finish

We recommend using timed finishing if you want to your finishing to the next level. The chance of scoring rises if you can add a timed finish and it will also worry your opponent more. Our timed finishing tutorial blog shows how to do this.

Use fake shot or skill

Finally in our FIFA shooting tutorial is the classic fake shot or skill. Creating that bit of space before you shoot can give you a better chance of scoring. Use fake shots to change angles, beat players and even the keeper. Creating easier chances to score. A few skills depending on the situation will create that space or even become part of the shot. The ball roll is the most common but various skills combined with shooting work well. Lots of skills shown on our FIFA skills tutorials.
